This year, at the Golden Globes, Oprah Winfrey was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award by the Hollywood foreign press for, “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”. After a rousing speech it made everyone start talking if she could run in the 2020 election. Oprah has been a icon and one of the stand out stars in Hollywood and has accomplished many things only few could achieve in a lifetime. Many look up to her as a woman of color in a industry where everyone is telling her no, but she said yes. What the next big step for a woman who has done it all? Our current president is not the most popular person to ever be in office, to say the least, but Oprah might have a few ideas.
A few friends of Ms. Winfrey, Richard Sher, Stedman Graham, and Gayle King, have been asked if she is considering running. King said, “That is certainly not something she’s considering right now.” Mostly, she is very supportive of Ms.Winfrey and would gladly want to see her run, they are best friends after all. Sher was asked and said it’s mostly just other people talking about and not Winfrey herself talking about it. Graham said when asked, “it’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.” This shows her ability to put herself before others and only wants the best for everyone around her, not including herself.
Recently, polls went up and many are saying that Ms.Winfrey wouldn’t fair too well against her fellow, possible, Democratic candidates. Joe Biden would most like destroy her in the primaries and Bernie Sanders wouldn’t be the best match for her. Despite her star power it wouldn’t be enough to win her seat in the White House.
