As the varsity boys soccer team heads into their 2016 season, expectations for their success are high. In their 2015 season, the team reached the state tournament and lost in the semi-finals, causing them to fall short of their collective goal to be the first boys soccer team at Cosby to win states.
The loss of eight seniors at the end of the 2015 season has made the task more difficult, but as Blake Brown, senior on the team, says, “I think we have what it takes, and we have seniors that can fill their shoes, so we should do well.” There are, again, eight seniors on the team who have all played for Cosby before, so their experience should ease the transition into this season.
Mr. Ricky Shumaker, Lightning Legion sponsor, has arranged for the pep band to come to all home games to increase support and spirit for the boys soccer team. Trevor Bedsaul, another senior on the team, says, “The pep band would be really exciting for the players and entertaining for the fans before the games.” Turnout has increased over the years, and due to the team’s success in the state tournament last year and the anticipated success for this year, the Lightning Legion events are expected to have a huge turnout to cheer the team to a state ring.
Team decisions were posted on Friday, February 26th, three days before their first win against Patrick Henry High School on Monday, February 29th.
