Alice in Wonderland, the Ballet

The locally based Stavna Dance Academy is displaying a ballet based on the classic Alice in Wonderland story written by Lewis Carroll.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 20th and Sunday, 21st at the Glen Allen Cultural Arts center. The showtimes on Saturday are 2 and 6PM, and on Sunday, the ballet will begin at 2 PM. “We are using some of the classic characters and bringing them to life in a fresh way,” said Mrs. Shannon McConville, the artistic director. “My goal is to make ballet more accessible to today’s younger audiences,” McConville went on to say

Stavna began working on the production in August of 2015, and the company has been working very hard to perfect the ballet. The production process required a casting call for the young people starring in the production.

The Stavna Dance Academy has been around since August of 2012 and has choreographed various productions in the last four years. The dance academy will be hosting an annual showcase on May 28th and 29th at the Modlin Center at the University of Richmond.
